Council amends fireworks sales license ordinance and sets $50 application fee

The City Council adopted an amendment to Chapter 10 of the City Code to require an application fee for fireworks sales licenses and approved a resolution setting that fee at $50 per application.
Kenneth D. Jennings, CFO and fire chief, told the council the change corrects a small omission from an ordinance adopted earlier in January. The fee is intended to offset staff time used to review applications for fireworks sales—often from nonprofit organizations that do not collect sales tax. The ordinance allows up to five local permits and reserves one spot for a national or international vendor if applied for; Jennings said if that reserved spot is unused it may be allocated locally.
The council approved the ordinance amendment and the companion resolution establishing a $50 application fee. The fee will be added to the citywide fee schedule in a future update.
