Open Space reports helicopter seeding, Earth Day plantings and progress on conservation greenprint

Open Space staff provided brief operational updates to the committee. Staff said helicopter operations at Deer Creek Community Park in late March and early April spread native seed mix and straw mulch on erosion-prone areas of the 40 Fire site and that staff consider the work successful. A reopening ceremony for Deer Creek Park is scheduled for May 15 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Staff reported that an Earth Day event at Van Vipper Park included about 30 staff and 90 volunteers who planted native shrubs, grasses and trees. They also noted that pedestrian bridges and an underpass installed on U.S. Highway 6 through Clear Creek Canyon were completed ahead of schedule; staff said the roadway reopened about 31 hours earlier than planned.
Rachel Brenna, strategy and planning director, gave a brief update on the conservation greenprint process and handed committee members a one-page summary of five refined initiatives and project proposals; staff said teams will bring more detailed project proposals and that the committee can review them in a future meeting (staff suggested July for a deeper review).
