Provost presents first annual academic program report; trustees seek refinements

Provost Laurie Eilish Piper presented the university's first annual academic program report to the Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Personnel Committee on May 8, 2025. The report provides a concise set of metrics for every degree program and is intended as a springtime, annually updated supplement to the Illinois Board of Higher Education's eight‑year program review cycle.
Piper said the report was developed in response to a trustee request in November 2024 and aims to increase campus transparency and provide a data tool for departments, colleges and trustees. "This annual academic program report provides a brief summary of all of our academic programs," she said, and added the report is intended to help programs identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Trustees and faculty governance representatives discussed next steps. Trustee Addis asked whether a standing group would steward version updates; Piper said the report was developed with the Academic Planning Council and faculty senate input and that version 2 will incorporate improvements after a year of use. Trustees asked specifically for a clearer full‑time versus part‑time student breakdown and more refined presentation of metrics for professional and graduate programs; Piper said those items are candidates for version 2. The committee received the report as an informational item; no vote was required.
