Arts & Humanities Council reports growth, urges earlier involvement in development projects

Ron Antalone, vice chair of the Falls Church Arts & Humanities Council, presented the council’s 2024 annual report to the City Council on April 28. The Arts and Humanities Council recommended two policy steps for 2025: that the council include the Arts and Humanities Council earlier in planning and review for voluntary concessions on new development projects so public art can be integrated from the start, and that the city consider a modest increase to the arts program grant fund to sustain diverse cultural programming. Antalone also asked the city to expand eligibility for grant applicants so newer organizations can apply.
Councilmembers thanked the Arts and Humanities Council for its work and noted a recent increase in public art and events around the city. No formal council action was taken; the presentation was received and will be referenced in upcoming budget and CIP discussions.
