Board approves reclassification of HVAC technician in Central Facilities to increase capacity

The Burlington Board of Finance unanimously approved a personnel reclassification that upgrades an HVAC technician position in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Waterfront’s Central Facilities division from AFSCME grade 17 to grade 18.
City staff described the reclassification as a capacity move for the central facilities team, which maintains City Hall, the public library, police facilities and parks buildings. Staff said the central facilities team recently added a capital coordinator but still lacks the working-level capacity to manage day-to-day tasks and support an expanding capital portfolio; a senior technician would take on additional responsibility and provide on-site supervision that frees the facilities manager to handle higher-level capital coordination.
Councilor Powell moved the item and Councilor Parker seconded it. Staff said the change will allow the team to take on more projects, including an upcoming police-station front-entrance project planned for early February.
Outcome: The board voted to recommend the reclassification to the City Council; the motion carried unanimously.
