Council issues proclamations: Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Winnick Post 396 and Public Service Recognition Week

The Geneva City Council used part of its Monday meeting to issue proclamations honoring two local organizations and to recognize public‑service employees.

Councilor at Large John Brennan read a proclamation recognizing Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church’s long community presence and marking its 75th anniversary. Victor Nelson, representing Mount Olive, thanked the council and invited officials and residents to anniversary events, saying the church will hold a three‑day celebration and that the city has approved an honorary street name, Mount Olive Way, at Clark and North streets.

Brennan also read a proclamation marking the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Auxiliary Winnick Post 396, noting volunteers’ long record of community service and a reported 2,400 volunteer hours by members in the past six months as described in the proclamation text.

The council additionally proclaimed a Public Service Recognition Week in Geneva to thank municipal and other public employees for their service, part of a nationwide observance. Brennan said the proclamation recognizes the “hundreds of thousands of dedicated public employees who work at the state, county, city, and every other level of government.”

Why it matters: Proclamations are ceremonial but publicly acknowledge community institutions, volunteerism and municipal employees; Mount Olive’s celebration includes a ceremonial street renaming and public events that the city has accommodated.
