Council sets public hearing for CDBG housing rehabilitation program after awarding administration contract

Geneva City Council unanimously approved a resolution to schedule a public hearing for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) housing rehabilitation proposal. The City Manager said the city has received funding for a second round of the program and a committee selected an administrator to help run the program.
The resolution was introduced as a walk-on item and sets the public hearing for the Council’s May 7 meeting to allow the city to proceed with program applications and the next round of assistance. The City Manager said the resolution “only sets the public hearing” and is intended to keep the application and program timeline moving.
Councilor Lavin moved the resolution and Councilor Petropoulos seconded. The Clerk called the roll; the recorded votes were Councilor Petropoulos (Aye), Councilor Gillette (Aye), Councilor Grimaldi (Aye), Councilor Lavin (Aye), Councilor Brunette (Aye) and Mayor Valentino (Aye). The motion carried.
Council discussion noted the city previously ran one round of the program and that awarding administration to a third party will allow staff to apply for subsequent rounds as funds are expended. No dollar amounts or the administrator’s name were specified in the meeting record.
The scheduled public hearing will give residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed housing rehabilitation program before the Council considers awarding funds or approving contracts.
