Committee pauses city mobile app rebuild; approves a public master‑plan survey

Director Vinich reported that the city’s prior parks mobile app had become unsupported after the original developer opted out of Apple/Google publishing requirements. Staff sought pricing from three U.S.-based developers and concluded the recurring costs and maintenance commitments made a relaunch unattractive at present.
Vinich said the department’s recommendation was to defer building a stand‑alone app while the city refreshes its website (which staff said can be made mobile-friendly) and to consider a larger, city‑wide digital platform later. “At this stage, I think the cost is more greater than the benefits,” Vinich said.
The committee voted to pause work on a replacement app.
Separately, Council Member Mabry moved and the committee approved a motion directing staff to create a SurveyMonkey-style online survey for elements of the 2026 Master Plan so the committee and the public can provide structured feedback. Staff said the overall master‑plan survey in progress has received about 650 responses to date and that leaders expect to review results and begin element‑level work shortly.
