The Burlington City Board of Finance unanimously approved two airport items: a contract with Jacobs Engineering Group for design and construction oversight of a taxiway mill-and-overlay, and an amendment and grant acceptance for the Project NEXT north-expanded terminal work.
Airport staff said the taxiway item (referred to in the meeting as Taxiway Charlie) covers final design and construction oversight ahead of an FAA grant application and is for an amount of just over $380,000. A presenter described the work as "a mill and overlay of that particular taxiway."
Project NEXT is the city's north-expanded terminal project. Staff said the new terminal phase is under construction and that the current request covers replacement of jet bridges and renovation sequencing; the item includes two actions discussed together in the meeting: an amendment with Engelbert for roughly $6,400,000 and acceptance of a grant to fund that work. Staff said the project is funded in part with a $34 million grant and other federal funds, including Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds and discretionary grant programs; the board approved both motions unanimously.
Airport staff and the finance director were present for questions on sequencing and gate capacity; staff said the work will improve gate flexibility and accommodate larger aircraft once completed. The board approved the procurement and grant acceptance as recommended.
