Chamber events, pool reopening and staffing changes highlighted in city reports

The director said the Festival of Lights drew about 25,000 vehicle tours and generated roughly $35,000 in donations; monetary donations were down slightly from last year but attendance was comparable. The director said donations primarily cover event costs and support park operations.
City Administrator Eric Johnson introduced Randall Whitman as the city’s new community development director. Whitman told the board it was his first day and that he previously worked in Springfield for about 20 years and has nearly 29 years of local government experience; Whitman said he looks forward to working on planning, historic preservation and staff support.
