The Board of Aldermen of the City of Ozark on Tuesday heard a presentation on bill 3635, a proposed ordinance authorizing an MOU with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to participate in the FBI's Metropolitan Gang Task Force.
Captain Derek Hill, speaking on behalf of the police chief, told aldermen the agreement would allow the city to assign a full, commissioned Ozark officer to work full time at the task force based at the FBI field office in Springfield. "This task force specifically investigates drug trafficking, money laundering, alien smuggling, crimes of violence, assaults, robberies, high profile crimes that are typically labor intensive and manpower intensive," Hill said, adding that participating would give Ozark access to additional investigators and FBI resources.
Hill said the assigned officer would be compensated through overtime and provided a vehicle and workspace by the FBI, but the city would remain responsible for the officer's salary and normal wages. When asked by Alderman Snyder whether the agreement had a fixed term, Hill said the arrangement is renewed annually and typically continues until conditions change on either side.
No members of the public spoke in favor of or opposed to the bill during the meeting. After brief board discussion there were no final motions to adopt the ordinance; the bill was held over to a future meeting for further consideration.
Bill 3635 remains on the agenda for a future session with no formal action recorded at this meeting.
