The recommendation on the Essen Log Cabin came after staff said bids exceeded earlier estimates and that the logs stored for the project have been exposed to recent storm damage. Joe (City planning staff) told commissioners the low bid received for the cabin work was $144,000, that the department had set aside about $220,000 for the project, and that two other bids were roughly $320,000–$325,000. "We need approximately a hundred thousand dollars," Joe said, explaining staff proposed reallocating portions of three 2025 capital projects — Portner Park, property acquisitions, and a State Route 100 sound-mitigation pilot — to cover the shortfall. The commission approved the department’s recommendation by general consent.
