At its April 17, 2025 meeting the Board of Public Safety recorded four formal outcomes the public should note:
• Approval of minutes: Board members voted to approve the meeting minutes from Oct. 10, 2024. The motion was moved and seconded, and the minutes were approved by voice vote.
• Turnberry gate: The board voted to oppose the installation of a gate across Turnberry Place Drive at Strecker Road. The board had previously denied a full gate request in 2009; staff had been asked to solicit bids for a southbound gate that would meet fire-district specifications. The board’s motion opposed installation and asked staff to forward language to City Council.
• Citywide prohibition on gates/obstructions: Following the Turnberry discussion the board approved a broader motion endorsing a prohibition on the installation of gates or other physical obstructions on any public street in the city, and recommending identification and removal of existing obstructions where feasible in coordination with Public Works and other departments.
• Snow-removal policy: The board approved a motion supporting development of a formal snow-removal and de-icing policy. Staff will draft route maps and performance benchmarks and return a draft to the board for review (target: June) before it is forwarded to City Council.
Staff recorded the board’s votes by voice and asked Public Works to forward motion language and next steps to the City Council.
