Wildwood board backs development of formal snow-removal policy; draft to return for review

The Board of Public Safety voted to support development of a formal snow-plow and de-icing policy that would put the city’s routine snow-removal procedures into written form, map the city’s 28 snow routes, and set performance expectations for contractors.
Public Works Director Rick Brown told the board the city has managed 350 lane miles with five contractors for years without a formal written policy and that the proposed document would codify priorities (arterial and collector routes first, then local streets and cul-de-sacs), include route maps and set simple performance benchmarks and communication standards for residents.
Board members said they wanted the policy to be detailed enough to guide contractor bids and to allow the city to measure contractor performance. Several members asked that the board see a draft before it is forwarded to City Council. Director Brown said staff aims to present a draft policy to the board at a June meeting and that the policy could include an interactive online map so residents can see route status during events.
A motion was made and seconded: the board supports establishment of a formal snow-removal policy and requested that the board receive the draft for review before staff forwards it to the council. The motion carried by voice vote.
