After discussing Village Green, the Essen Log cabin and other capital pressures, the Planning & Parks Committee voted April 21 to direct staff to develop a coordinated fundraising strategy for parks projects.
City Administrator (name not specified) and staff suggested a two-track approach: (1) small-dollar, point-of-sale donations during event registration or online (for example a $1–$5 prompt when residents sign up for programs), and (2) corporate sponsorship opportunities tied to events such as Music on Main or Celebrate Wildwood. Staff advised that the city’s communications team and the City Attorney be involved to draft privacy and donor-handling processes and to ensure any sponsorship benefits conform with city policy.
Committee members said targeted business outreach (local retailers, grocery and service chains) and volunteer-led fundraising at city events could supplement capital funds. The committee approved a motion directing Planning & Parks to coordinate with the city administrator and communications staff to develop a recommended approach and return with options.
Staff will prepare a programmatic plan, legal and administrative requirements for donation handling, and suggested timelines for piloting point-of-sale donations and sponsorship packages.
