Wildwood sees lower first-quarter crime and launches targeted 'safe speeds' enforcement weekends

St. Louis County police assigned to Wildwood reported a drop in several crime categories in the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period last year and outlined a new targeted enforcement effort on high-complaint roads.
Captain Mundell told the board that crimes against persons fell from 27 incidents in Q1 last year to 20 incidents this year (about a 25% decrease) and that crimes against property fell from 62 incidents in Q1 2024 to 31 incidents in Q1 2025 (about a 50% drop). Crimes against society (drug violations, DWIs and similar incidents) were similar year to year (25 in 2024 vs. 23 in 2025), the captain said.
The police precinct also launched a 'safe speeds / safe streets' enforcement pilot on complaint corridors (Highway 109, Highway 100 and Clayton Road). Captain Mundell said the first weekend of enforcement produced more than 80 traffic stops, several DWIs and roughly 50–60 citations for traffic offenses, with enforcement concentrated Friday and Saturday evenings. The department secured grant money to pay overtime for the enforcement weekends and plans to run additional weekends in late April and May as weather and scheduling permit.
Board members praised the precinct’s visibility and the use of overtime and grant funds to supplement enforcement. The board also discussed changes to vehicle livery: staff said county vehicles assigned to Wildwood will retain “City of Wildwood” lettering beneath the St. Louis County police identification, although the overall design and colors are changing.
Captain Mundell said the precinct will follow up with comparative data for nearby jurisdictions to give context to Wildwood’s low but improving crime numbers.
