Wildwood previews busy construction season as MoDOT and city projects ramp up

City Public Works provided the Board of Public Safety an overview of major roadwork planned for Wildwood this year, describing a heavy construction season combining MoDOT and city projects that together total about $32 million in local activity and are part of larger state investment.

Public Works Director Rick Brown summarized MoDOT’s multi-year safety improvement program, which he described as a roughly $52 million project covering more than 200 locations across Jefferson County, St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis. Brown said much of MoDOT’s work is complete, but he noted MoDOT will remove certain traffic islands that drew criticism and will continue other improvements including a high-friction surface treatment on Old State Road that the city helped fund with about $330,000.

Brown also described upcoming city-managed projects, including an annual concrete street replacement, annual asphalt resurfacing, and rehabilitation work on Centaur Bridge. MoDOT’s resurfacing of Route BA and Route 109 and Route 100 resurfacing work are underway and include local cost-share elements for turn lanes and j-turn improvements at several intersections; he cited a combined project value of about $14 million for those improvements.

The board heard that a MoDOT roundabout at Wauppawsha Creek Road and Route 109 is progressing and that drivers should expect multiple work zones across the city this summer. Brown said the total of planned regional and city road projects this summer is approximately $32 million, funded by a combination of federal, state, county and city sources.

Board members were advised to expect traffic impacts and were urged to share notices with residents.
