Wildwood staff provided an update on recent and pending business openings and permitting matters at the Economic Development Committee meeting.
City Administrator Thomas Lee said signs indicated American Mattress will occupy 2440 Taylor Road next to Dierbergs; staff will guide the business through the permitting process. "American Mattress is moving into the property at 2440 Taylor Road right next to Dierbergs," Lee said.
Staff reported the seasonal farmers market is scheduled to open May 24 and run through Oct. 4; the market will later transition to the Village Green as the season progresses. The committee also received shorter updates on other tenant changes: Cattails Lodge received site-specific ordinance approval for a cat daycare use; a new restaurant (Chula Indian Hearth) is proposed for 16721 Main Street (the former Benedetto space), and several small businesses have rebranded (for example, CrossFit Wildwood is now Wildwood Fitness Collective).
Good News Brewing, a proposed business in town center, has applied for a federal manufacturer/retailer authorization that triggers Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau review. Lee explained that the applicant submitted documentation on March 7 and that "it's an 85 day processing window." Staff said they sought help from U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner's office, which raised a congressional inquiry to support expedition; staff cautioned that an inquiry can encourage prioritization but does not guarantee approval if the application is deficient. The business's soft opening was circled for early May, but staff said final local licensing depends on receipt of federal confirmation.
The committee also discussed a separately owned restaurant/property where interior repairs delayed an opening; staff reported ongoing work and indicated they would provide another status update at the next meeting.
Ending: Staff will continue to monitor permit progress, follow up with applicants, and report any new opening dates or licensing confirmations to the committee.
