Planning staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission it will alter the process for the 2026 master plan update by removing a "post-it note" public-input activity, cutting video content and limiting agenda items to shorten meetings and increase productivity.
Mr. Vinic explained the department began outreach with a citizens oversight group but that sessions had become lengthy and produced limited useful information. The department will shift management of meetings to the commission's chair and vice chair, exclude the post-it note component and eliminate planned videos except where specifically useful. The department said it will present completed elements for review at successive meetings and limit each meeting to one substantive element plus the next element to be reviewed.
The department said its goal remains to conclude the process "as promised by the December 2025" milestone and to have an updated master plan to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council in early 2026. Staff said the May 13 meeting will show a different agenda structure reflecting the new approach.
Commissioners asked no substantive policy questions at the end of the presentation and accepted the revised meeting approach. No formal action was required.
