The Wildwood Architectural Review Board voted to approve a lobby addition and a new elevator tower for the Fellowship of Wildwood Church, located near Highway 100 and Mueller Road.
Rosie Mitchell of the Aspen Group presented the project on behalf of the church, describing a new lobby with two roof heights (around 14 feet for the primary element) and an elevator shaft that will be masonry with an EIFS finish to match existing cornice and coping details. "The new addition will be set kind of at that 14 feet," Mitchell said, noting the design includes clerestory windows to bring natural light into the lobby and an aluminum louvered sunshade to shade the patio.
Renderings reviewed by the board show the primary exterior as brick to match the existing building, with a stone veneer accent at the lobby piers and matching mortar. Mitchell identified proposed exterior fixtures: downlights above three new exit doors, canopy post lights and bollard lighting consistent with existing site fixtures. Landscaping around the disturbed areas will be replaced with mulch, turf and boxwoods where grading is altered; the area around the elevator will remain a landscaped zone rather than turf to avoid maintenance conflicts.
Members asked whether EIFS is permitted; one member said EIFS is discouraged in the town center but acceptable outside it. The church property is located outside the town center and is zoned a non‑urban residence district, and the applicant said materials will be matched to existing brick and EIFS details.
Board members clarified that the sunshade is a louvered canopy, not a full roof, supported by columns and integrated with the storefront glazing. The board also asked for proportioning changes to a stone base and asked that paving and surface treatment around the elevator and nearby exit doors be coordinated with building maintenance and circulation patterns.
Member Parsons moved to approve the application; the motion was seconded by Alex Bartelsmeier and the board approved the architectural additions on a voice vote. Staff noted that the board can approve the plans "with or without conditions" and that the approval will be followed by standard permit and construction‑phase reviews.
