Village Green construction nears completion; irrigation, stage and underground electrical work advance

The city’s presenter said the Civic Oval — the centerpiece of Village Green phase 1 — is nearly complete and that contractors poured the stage last week. Staff singled out the electrical subcontractor’s revised design and quick turnaround: the undergrounding of the electric was expected to take two to three months but work was completed in about three weeks after a redesign and rapid plan approval.
Staff told commissioners that irrigation lines are slated for installation in the coming weeks and that crews are considering sodding to establish turf before the celebration. Because Main Street construction is not yet finished, the usable footprint for vendor tents is smaller than originally anticipated; staff said Village Green will accommodate 110-by-10 tents but that part of the back parking lot will be used for additional vendor space and that the city tent likely will be placed in the rear area.
Staff asked commissioners to help promote Main Street construction where possible, saying completion would increase usable event space. The commission discussed conducting a dry run at Village Green in July or August to test operations before the September 30th‑anniversary celebration.
Commissioners and staff described the overall update as “positive” and urged members to walk the site as a group. The commission’s staff said contractors and subcontractors have coordinated on the remaining critical path items and that the city hopes to finalize tent layout and perform an operational dry run before the event.
The status update also noted limits on the types of tents and number of spaces available, and the need to adapt vendor and schedule planning to the current construction timeline.
