Wildwood steps up weekend enforcement, speed trailers and messaging on State Route 100/109

Staff said the effort combined visible police enforcement, social‑media messaging, e‑newsletters and deployed message boards and speed‑display trailers at targeted locations. The department worked with the local precinct to fund additional officer time and used a concentrated enforcement schedule of four coordinated weekends; two had already occurred at the time of the briefing.
Staff said enforcement typically includes cautionary leeway around the speed‑gauge 5‑mph variance and that penalties depend on the measured overage; heavier enforcement and court reporting should create an uptick in court records in the coming months. The department emphasized the awareness component—frequent public messages seeking voluntary behavior change in addition to citations.
Committee members asked about repeat offenders, direction of travel for violations, and whether citations disproportionately involve non‑residents. Staff said they did not have detailed origin data and would compile equitable summary statistics after the enforcement push concludes. Staff also said the city has permission processes to place speed trailers on some county roads and has pursued permits to install a trailer on Old State Road.
No formal committee action was required; staff said the department will continue weekend enforcement as resources permit and will return to the committee with compiled data and suggested public reporting formats.
