The Dunkirk Common Council approved requests from Revitalize Dunkirk for two cleanup events and a hydration station for the Memorial Day parade, granted a loudspeaker permit to the Dunkirk Lighthouse, and laid the July dog show request on the table pending confirmation of park pavilion availability.
The council approved Revitalize Dunkirk’s seventh annual trash cleanup on Saturday, April 26, 2025 (8 a.m.–12 p.m., rain date April 27), and a separate cleanup connected to National Fuels Day of Doing on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 (12 p.m.–4 p.m., rain date May 22). Both approvals were made “subject to appropriate insurances and usual conditions.” The council also approved providing a hydration station for the Memorial Day parade. All three Revitalize Dunkirk items were moved and approved on roll call.
The council also approved a loudspeaker permit request from the Dunkirk Lighthouse to use speakers between May 1 and Oct. 31, 2025, from 9 a.m.–10 p.m. The motion carried on roll call.
Julie Schafer requested use of Point Gratiot Park for an International All Breed Canine Association dog show proposed for a weekend in July (the applicant referred to July 26–27). Councilmembers asked the clerk to confirm pavilion availability and tabled the request until dates could be verified.
Conditions and next steps: approved community events were referred to appropriate departments for insurance reviews and logistical conditions; the dog show will return after the clerk confirms facility availability.
