City staff provided an update on rebuild and recovery activity for fire-affected properties during the April 7 Planning Commission meeting.
Maureen, a city rebuild coordinator, told commissioners the city’s rebuild tracking now shows four planning verifications approved and six pending (previously reported at six pending and two approvals). She said the rebuild center has reviewed about 155 properties and 12 applicants have returned with more developed plans for subsequent reviews. Staff reported no plan-check approvals yet and no certificates of occupancy because construction has not progressed to that stage.
Maureen also reported public-records activity: about 378 public-records requests for fire information were logged two weeks earlier, and staff had completed approximately 248 records at the time of the report; she said the team was completing roughly 50 records per week with additional help brought on for document searches.
Staff noted the Coastal Commission is scheduled to consider LCP (Local Coastal Program) minor amendments related to fire rebuild components at a hearing in Santa Barbara later in the week (item 10b). Maureen listed upcoming outreach meetings and technical sessions for property owners and design professionals, and said a city-run business survey aimed at developing a program for affected businesses closes the next day.
Kellen and Colin (city staff) provided more granular counts: Colin said PCH beachfront property outreach focused on owners not yet opted in for rebuild cleanup—staff had reduced the list from higher counts to 39 PCH properties still missing information (staff described similar counts for non-PCH lots). Maureen said the city council would consider a fire rebuild wait-for program similar to one enacted after the Wilsey/Wilson fire and that the debris removal extension had been moved to April 15.
Commissioners thanked staff and urged property owners to use rebuild center resources. The briefing was informational; no formal action was taken.
