Meade County temporarily shortens public hours at Treasurer’s Office while new state motor‑vehicle system is stabilized

Meade County Treasurer Robin Shrake told the Board of Commissioners that since the county moved to a new state motor‑vehicle software platform (referred to during the meeting as "605"), staff have faced significantly more end‑of‑day processing time and routine system issues requiring additional office time. Shrake said staff are regularly required to stay late to balance the system and to recreate or verify records the new system did not import cleanly.
To reduce the daily overtime burden and give staff time to complete balancing and phone work, Shrake asked the board to allow the county treasurer’s public window to close to the public at 4:30 p.m. while staff hours remain unchanged. Commissioners approved a temporary change in public hours to 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. through the July meeting, at which point the office will return with an update. Commissioners instructed staff to post notices on the county website and social media and to place signage at the courthouse.
Shrake said the county will continue to process transactions and work standard hours internally and that other South Dakota treasurer offices have taken similar temporary steps while the state system stabilizes.
