Board honors Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad for more than 50 years of service

The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution commending the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad for more than 50 years of service to county residents.
Supervisor Marshall read the resolution to the board and guests, noting the squad's origin in October 1974, early volunteer recruitment by the Spotsylvania County Women's Club and Dr. Paulino Sambat, and charter members who helped launch the agency. Marshall read portions of the resolution that described the squad's growth from a converted Chevrolet station wagon operating out of a donated garage to a modern volunteer force that has run thousands of calls annually, participated in school and community education programs and received a governor's EMS award in 2008.
The board voted to approve the resolution; the meeting record shows the vote as unanimous.
The board paused business to stage a photo of squad members and supervisors in front of a mural in the chamber following the resolution's adoption.
