The Southampton County Planning Commission unanimously approved a request from Robert T. Parker to rezone 3.9 acres on Old Cart Road (tax parcel 58‑10A) from M‑1 limited industrial back to A‑1 agricultural so the owner may build a primary residence on the lot.
Parker told the commission the parcel was originally agricultural before past owners rezoned it for industrial use. He said the family now intends to use the fielded parcel for a residence while retaining a separate M‑1 parcel on the property for continued processing and packaging operations on Route 58.
Planning staff presented the application and noted no weaknesses in the report. Commissioners posed routine questions about driveway access and parcel configuration. Parker said the parcel chosen for the home is the open field adjacent to the existing M‑1 lot and that the processing operations would remain on the separate industrial parcel. The commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the rezoning to the Board of Supervisors; staff indicated the board will receive the recommendation at its next advertised public hearing.
