City staff reported progress on a streetlight installation project along Highway 361 that will add roughly a dozen new poles and LED fixtures intended to improve visibility near the Whataburger and other businesses.
A staff presentation noted the city pursued TxDOT assistance but ultimately entered an agreement with a separate provider (referred to in the packet and presentation) to install approximately 12 poles with 14‑foot arms and 100–122 watt LED fixtures. Staff said the poles will be spaced from FM 1069 toward the bin area; the provider’s larger plan includes about 16 lights in the corridor but the city is receiving 12 of those as part of this agreement.
Council members welcomed the news, with one saying the extra lighting “probably have saved an untold amount of accidents and lives” given anticipated foot traffic. Staff said the lights should noticeably increase illumination on that side of the highway and complement other lighting projects in town.
Staff characterized the agreement as in progress; no final construction contract or schedule was published in the meeting packet. The council accepted the report and thanked staff for the work.
