Council briefed on updated fire prevention district intergovernmental agreement adding Mableton

City staff said the city is recommending adoption of an updated intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the Fire Prevention District that adds Mableton and modernizes a document last updated in 1976.
"This is just, really administrative. It's an update to the existing fire delivery agreement, which was last updated in 1976. Mhmm. So, and it adds Mableton," a staff member said during the Kennesaw work session Monday. Staff reported that Mableton and Powder Springs have already adopted the updated agreement and that all cities' attorneys have reviewed it.
A council member asked whether cities could have more ongoing oversight or a review committee instead of a largely county-led process. Staff said the state provides oversight and that the county coordinates with the state's fire oversight entity; staff also said the agreement requires the fire district to provide an annual report (noting a March 1 reporting deadline) but that the city has not previously received that report and will follow up.
The council placed the matter on the consent agenda for future formal action; no substantive changes to services were described at the work session.
