The Kennesaw City Council on Monday appointed Sam Hensley Jr. as city attorney and later unanimously authorized a continuation of special counsel representation related to SDS negotiations with Cobb County.
Mayor Andrew announced that Randall, the city’s current city attorney, "has decided that he's gonna step aside" to spend time with family and that Randall will continue to serve as solicitor alongside Jamie Wingler. The mayor said Sam Hensley Jr., of the firm Bentley and Bentley, would step in as city attorney effective immediately.
The council moved to appoint Sam Hensley Jr.; the motion was seconded by Council Member Farris and passed on a 4-1 vote. Madeline Orchena cast the sole "nay" vote. The mayor asked the council to comment before an executive session; no substantive amendment accompanied the appointment.
After an executive session convened under OCGA §§50-14-2 and 50-14-3 for legal advice, the council returned and voted to add a continuation of special counsel representation in the SDS negotiations with Cobb County to the agenda. Council Member Jones moved to add the item; the motion was seconded and passed 5-0. The council then authorized the mayor to execute the continuation of special counsel representation on a motion by Council Member Byers, seconded by Council Member Jones; that vote was 5-0.
