Bellmead swears in three new police officers

Chief Sean Myatt of the Bellmead Police Department administered the oath of office and statement of appointment to three new officers during a ceremony at the Bellmead Police Department. The officers sworn in were Elijah Cummins, Edgar Zuniga and Ricky Gonzales.
The three new officers previously worked at the local detention center under the McLennan County Sheriff's Office and completed police academy training before joining Bellmead. Chief Myatt thanked families for their support and described a career in public service as rewarding but sacrificial.
“My name is Sean Myatt. I am the chief of police here at Bellmead Police Department,” Myatt said in introductory remarks, and later added, “I wanna thank each and every one of y'all for being here. Thank you for your sacrifice for loaning out your son, your husband, father, to, attend the academy, graduate, and then we're excited to have them here and be a part of the city of Bellmead as a Bellmead Police Officer.”
Myatt introduced each officer and conducted the oath and statement of appointment required for Texas police officers. He said the three men share similar career paths: each began work in the detention center in about 2018, worked with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office until 2024, and then attended the Hill County community college police academy before joining Bellmead.
Officer Elijah Cummins was introduced as having been born in Louisiana’s Tammany Parish and later graduating from school in Whitney, Texas. Officer Edgar Zuniga was described as born and raised in Waco and as a detention-center employee who transitioned to McLennan County service in 2019. Officer Ricky Gonzales was described as born in California, raised in Waco and familiar with the local area. Each officer repeated the oath of office and was presented as a member of the Bellmead Police Department.
Chief Myatt also acknowledged city staff and department members who attended the ceremony, including City Manager Joe Zachary, Assistant City Manager Karen Evans, Human Resources Manager Kathy Burnett and Community Development Director Fred Morris, as well as patrol and investigative staff present for the event.
The ceremony concluded with badge pinning, photographs and brief remarks. Chief Myatt invited attendees to remain for a short period to visit and take photos; he closed the formal portion by saying, “So that'll conclude this portion of the ceremony.”
