Owners of Last Chance Bar urge Bellmead council to reverse removal of game machines, warn of closure
Summary

Ruth Mitchell and George Mitchell, owners of the Last Chance Bar in Bellmead, asked the council during the public-comment period to reconsider enforcement that led to removal of gaming machines at their establishment.
Ruth Mitchell, who identified herself as the bar’s bookkeeper, said, “we are struggling since the games were removed from the bar. . . . I see us possibly having to close in 2 weeks.” She urged the council to look at an appeal filed last month.
Her husband, George Mitchell, who identified himself as a long-time operator in Bellmead, described the business as ‘‘a family friendly environment’’ that has hosted karaoke, live bands, weddings and other community events. He said the bar has worked to curtail gang-related problems and that city management had been aware of those efforts. He asked the council to “please consider that thousand foot rule and let us keep our game systems,” and said the machines have been at the business for 17 years.
No council action or response that altered enforcement was recorded at the meeting; the owners said they had appealed at the previous meeting and requested council reconsideration.
