Lee's Summit promotes beautification, stream cleanups and a new MoDOT 'No Mow Trash' partnership

At the April 3 town hall, council members underscored beautification efforts and volunteer programs aimed at reducing litter and protecting streams, and noted a new MoDOT outreach campaign to engage community partners.
Volunteer programs and stream health: Council member Cinda Raider said local church groups, scouts and volunteers have partnered with city street teams and the city's stream team to remove litter from city-owned streets and streams. "If there's trash in the fields and it rains, it's gonna go down into our beautiful streams and pollute those as well," Raider said.
MoDOT partnership: Raider said the Missouri Department of Transportation has launched a "No Mow Trash" campaign this year to engage businesses, schools and organizations to combat litter along state highways and to support the city's Public Works efforts; she said MoDOT jurisdiction over state highways presents limitations on what the city can directly clean for liability reasons.
Civic coordination: Raider credited the city's Public Works Department and the Cultural Commission with coordinating local beautification and said volunteers can register for organized cleanups. Officials asked residents with questions about volunteer events to check the city website for event registration details and waivers.
