Lee's Summit City Council advanced an ordinance April 8 to vacate roughly 4,400 square feet of excess right‑of‑way at the intersection of Northwest Sloan Street and Northwest Main Street; the additional land would be absorbed into a previously approved apartment development known as The Haven.
Staff report
Hector Soto, senior planner, told council the excess right‑of‑way resulted from a prior realignment of Sloan Street during logistics development in 2022. The highlighted area contains no buildings and includes erosion control remnants; staff said accepting the vacation will provide the apartment development with additional green space, landscaping and improved separation from the street.
Council discussion and action
Council asked staff whether the area would remain green and who would maintain it; staff said the land would incorporate required landscaping standards for development and that ownership would be part of the permit/platting process. The council advanced Bill 25‑064 to second reading by voice vote; the clerk recorded the result as unanimous.
Ending
Staff recommended approval and said completion of the right‑of‑way vacation will allow permitting and finishing work for The Haven to proceed.
