The Lee's Summit City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 25‑09 on April 21, formally expressing the city's commitment to public safety and support for Missouri’s Blue Shield program.
Chief of Police Travis Forbes told the council that the governor’s Blue Shield program may provide up to $11 million statewide for law enforcement, with an early emphasis on training. “We’re wanting to become a Blue Shield certified law enforcement department for the city of Lee’s Summit,” he said, and staff included a draft application packet in the meeting materials to show the department’s current programs.
Council Member Shields moved to adopt Resolution 25‑09; Council Member Carlisle seconded the motion. The resolution passed unanimously on voice vote.
The council packet included program materials and an application checklist; staff said additional Blue Shield program details and grant guidance from the governor’s office are expected in the coming months.
