Surprise commission approves medical findings for four new public-safety hires, amends one determination

The Surprise Public Safety Retirement Commission reviewed medical examinations and experience records for four recent hires and approved medical determinations for each candidate, including an amendment to the finding for one recruit.

The commission considered reports for Andrea Korner, Michael Ligori Reed, Rhonda Sanchez and recruit Adam Holmes and noted hire dates provided in the staff report (Korner hired 03/03/2025; Ligori Reed 02/18/2025; Sanchez and Howell hired January 2025). The board directed that each employee had been officially notified of the review of their medical records.

A motion was made to approve Andrea Korner (with preexisting conditions indicated), Michael Ligori Reed (initially moved without preexisting conditions), Rhonda Sanchez (with preexisting conditions indicated) and Adam Holmes (with preexisting conditions indicated). During the vote the board member making the motion amended the Reed finding to indicate "with preexisting conditions," and the amendment was seconded. The amended motion then carried on a voice vote; the chair called the motion passed after the board members signaled assent.

The commission handled the matter in open session only to the extent permissible; board members recognized that detailed medical discussion would require executive session and deferred that level of discussion when appropriate. No further action was taken beyond the approvals recorded on the minutes.

The approvals and the amendment are recorded in the meeting minutes and will be reflected in personnel files as the commission directed.
