The Beacon City Council voted to award the city’s bid for sodium hypochlorite used at the wastewater treatment plant to PVS Mini Bulk at a price of $2.21 per gallon, City Administrator Chris White told the council.
White said the new price compares with the city’s current cost of $3.08 per gallon and represents a savings of almost $22,000 a year. “So we’re gonna go with the one that would actually save us money and that is to award this bid to PVS mini bulk,” White said.
White said the city had bid three treatment‑plant chemicals and that the other two bids (liquid polymer and an oxidizer/odor control product) were being held because those quoted prices were higher than the city’s current market price. He said the city engineer would seek to re‑negotiate those other bids.
Council members voiced support for choosing the low bidder to reduce operating costs. “I appreciate you working to save us as much money as you can, Chris,” said Council Member Molly (surname not specified in the record).
The council moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by voice vote; members present recorded their assent. The action approves a three‑year supply arrangement with the low bidder for the hypochlorite line only; the other two chemical bids remain under review.
