Council approves up to $60,000 from rink reserve for maintenance, ADA upgrades

Commissioner Greg Rebbior said the account is funded by user fees (hockey, figure skating, YMCA and other groups) rather than tax dollars. The funds will cover items including a new scoreboard, replacement of interior and exterior doors, repair or replacement of an overhead door for Zamboni access, and a concrete ADA-compliant ramp and new railings at the front entrance; some items had not been included in the original $40,000 request, prompting an amendment to $60,000.
A councilor asked the chamberlain for the account balance; Rebbior said the chamberlain reported about $210,000 was in the reserve. Rebbior also said the city has applied for a New York State Recreation grant that could support a future locker-room project, contingent on grant award and stakeholder contributions. Committee members approved the amended request by recorded affirmative votes.
Commissioner Rebbior said the reserve is built from hourly fees paid by organizations and that next year the city expects to add automatic doors to meet full ADA compliance. He described some doors and locker-room interior doors as decades old and in need of replacement. No construction schedule or contractor names were discussed on the record.
