Montgomery County planning staff announced April 9 that they have hired a GIS analyst, Sarah Cahoon, who will start after June 1, and are offering a summer internship to support upcoming work on village plans that feed into the county comprehensive-plan update.
Planning Director Miss Hopkins told commissioners the department expects to hold a series of village-plan meetings beginning in June with two sessions in June, two in July and two in August to cover village-level planning for several communities. Staff said they are securing local meeting locations and will advertise dates once confirmed.
The commission was also notified about an upcoming planning commissioners training session next week and that staff and staff planners attended the American Planning Association national conference, which staff characterized as providing useful material on housing and other subjects relevant to the county's work on the comprehensive plan.
Hopkins said the consultant working on the comprehensive-plan update will deliver drafts for the main comp plan and all village plans together; staff intends to sequence in-person village meetings by geography, with Bridal Fork and other villages scheduled early in the outreach schedule.
The commission and staff discussed timing and suggested sequencing village-plan meetings in areas seeing the most development. Staff said they would attempt to accommodate that concern while proceeding with the consultant’s schedule. The village-plan outreach is intended to bring the county closer to completing the comprehensive plan update.
