Commission approves engineering consent items including telecom relocation, hurricane response contracts and Cruise Terminal 1 modifications
Summary
The board approved engineering consent items that reimburse AT&T for telecom relocation tied to a road intersection improvement, authorize continuing contractors for hurricane-season emergency response, and add fencing/crosswalk/signage to Cruise Terminal 1 canopy work to support the upcoming Star of the Seas operations.
The Canaveral Port Authority commission approved a set of engineering consent items on June 4 that the engineering director described as necessary to support ongoing capital projects and operations.
Engineering staff said one consent item reimburses AT&T for engineering, materials and labor to relocate telecommunications infrastructure to allow planned intersection improvements at George King Boulevard and Flounder Street, where new turn lanes and signal mast arms are required. Staff said the work will move AT&T facilities outside the construction footprint so the intersection improvements can proceed.
A second item authorized issuance of purchase orders to four continuing contractors to provide port-wide emergency response services in the 2025 hurricane season. Engineering staff said the item mirrors a similar action taken the prior year and that the contractors provide rapid assessment, debris removal and safety work after named storms; staff added that if no named storm affects the port the budgeted funds will remain unspent.
A third engineering item adds fencing, a crosswalk and signage to previously approved pedestrian canopies on the west side of Cruise Terminal 1 to improve passenger flow for the incoming Star of the Seas. Engineering staff said the port will front the cost and recover it through a capital cost recovery charge billed to the cruise line.
All consent items were included in the commission’s consent agenda and were adopted when the commission approved the full consent agenda.
