Everman council tables resolution opposing county redistricting that would move city out of Precinct 1

The Everman City Council on Tuesday voted to table a resolution that would oppose any Tarrant County redistricting plan that moves the city out of commissioners court Precinct 1.

City Manager (unnamed) told the council he must remain nonpartisan but described operational concerns if Everman moved to a precinct without unincorporated areas. “One of my largest concerns is how that will impact operations if we go to a precinct that no longer has a streets and roads, roads, a heavy streets and roads department,” he said.

The resolution presented to council specifically would oppose a plan that relocates Everman from Precinct 1 into Precinct 2. Council members said they want to align Everman with larger nearby cities considering broader measures. The mayor said staff should collect other cities’ resolutions so Everman can consider a version consistent with regional approaches.

A councilmember moved to table the resolution and a second was received; the motion to table carried and the item was deferred to the next meeting.

The city manager encouraged council and residents to attend a county redistricting town hall with Tarrant County Commissioners Court representatives. He also warned that some proposed maps remove most unincorporated areas from Precinct 1, which could reduce precinct-level road maintenance support that Everman currently relies on.

Council discussion focused on timing and coordination: some members wanted to wait for resolutions from larger cities and to see the county’s proposed maps before taking a formal position.

The council did not adopt any redistricting policy at the meeting; action was limited to tabling the draft resolution for further review.
