Staff said the application met the town—s sport-court design guidelines, including setbacks, lot coverage and proposed landscaping; there will be no lighting or fencing associated with the installation. A council member moved to approve the conditional-use permit and the motion carried with "aye" votes and no opposition recorded.
Two other conditional-use permit requests for private sports courts — at 411 Broadwing and 913 Tranquility Drive — were continued to the April 1 council meeting at the applicants' requests so septic field or septic-spray-area conflicts could be reviewed and corrected. Council voted to continue each public hearing to the April meeting.
On boards and commissions, the council voted to appoint Daryl Sims to fill a vacancy on Planning & Zoning; the motion passed with aye votes and no opposition recorded. The council noted Mr. Sims was interviewed and viewed by interviewers as highly qualified to complete the remainder of the vacant term.
In other brief items, council members reported the town's effort to obtain a dedicated ZIP code for Fairview has progressed in the state legislature: a bill that previously died in the Senate has been resubmitted to the House, staff said, and they expressed hope the measure will move forward. Council members also reported visits to the Federal Aviation Administration and plans to pursue further meetings with the Texas Department of Transportation—s aviation division to discuss airport oversight and coordination.
