Police report hires and training; fire department completes HVAC work, accepts safety-house donation

Fairview police and fire staff delivered staffing and operations updates to the Town Council on March 4.

Assistant Chief Matt Moody said the police department currently has two officers attending the Texoma Regional Law Enforcement Academy, one officer in an Arlington academy scheduled to graduate in May and a recently hired lateral officer undergoing field training. "We currently have two officers that are attending the Texoma Regional Law Enforcement Academy up in Sherman," Moody said, and he described additional training partnerships with neighboring departments, including multi-day monthly training that will let officers rotate through courses such as CPR, active-shooter response and defensive tactics. Moody also said the department answered 614 calls in February.

Fire department staff reported completion of HVAC and propane-regulator repairs at Station 2 and said the generator company will perform a full load test before closing the work out. The fire chief said one new hire started orientation this week and another vacancy will be filled from interviews scheduled the coming Monday. The department also received donations that largely funded a training "safety house" (roughly $7,000 total, with Friends of Fairview covering the remaining $800). The safety house will be used by both fire and police personnel for safety demonstrations and training; staff said it is being ordered and expected to arrive later this year.

The fire department also listed upcoming community events, including a spring gathering and the pancake breakfast later in the year.

Council members welcomed the staffing additions and the training partnerships; there were no formal actions taken on the reports.
