The Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of Special Use Permit SUP-25-0001 for Christ Fellowship Church of Williamsburg, allowing the operation of a place of public assembly and site improvements at 3687 and 3695 Ironbound Road.
Staff said the proposal, which would add two storage sheds (8' x 12.5') and a 50' x 50' playground to the existing church site, is compatible with surrounding development and generally consistent with the 2045 Comprehensive Plan. Staff recommended approval subject to the conditions in the staff report and noted that any future development not consistent with the approved master plan would require a master plan amendment and approval by the Board of Supervisors.
Representatives from Christ Fellowship — including Scott Dobson and Terry Lackey — spoke in support and described a grant-funded planting of native plants and other drainage- and landscaping-related improvements. Neighbors who spoke, including Aiden Diggs, said they support the church’s stewardship of the property but asked that the parking lot not be expanded; staff said any additional parking or development inconsistent with the approved master plan would require further approvals.
Commissioner Pollster moved to recommend approval with conditions; the commission approved the recommendation on a roll-call vote (Aye: Pollster, Rogers, Everson, May, Haskins, Allman). The recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
