Isanti City canvassing board approves returns from April 8 municipal primary special election

The Isanti City Council Canvassing Board approved a resolution to canvass the returns from the municipal primary special election held April 8, 2025, by a 3-0 vote Tuesday evening.

The action formalizes the board's review of vote totals from the April 8 election and followed brief comments from election staff about a single minor incident in the polling log. The canvass resolution was moved by Councilmember Heemann and seconded by Councilmember Peterson; the motion passed unanimously by the three members present.

During the meeting, an election staff member identified as Jaden said the election was “very slow” compared with a prior contest and that there was “very little in the incident log,” noting one entry in which a voter began to sign but did not complete a signature. The presiding officer said there was no line when they arrived and that turnout was “good,” characterizing participation as a strong result for a primary and special-election timing.

Councilmembers Jeff Holmgren and Steve Lundeen were absent and had notified the board of their absence. Earlier in the meeting the council adopted the agenda by a 3-0 vote (moved by Heemann; seconded by Peterson) and later approved a motion to adjourn by the same margin. No public commenters spoke during the public-comment period.

The board did not detail any contested returns or announce additional follow-up actions during the meeting.
