Stearns County commissioners approve Shady’s outdoor-music permit after township compromise; debate exposes planning process tensions

The Stearns County Board of Commissioners on a voice vote approved a permit for Shady’s outdoor music, after township officials and the venue negotiated conditions that limit late-night music to every other weekend.

Supporters of the motion said the county followed its established public-notice and hearing procedures and that the township and the applicant had reached a compromise. “The township went back, had that conversation with Shady’s. It was an agreed upon discussion with Shady’s,” planning staff member Shelley said during the meeting.
