Todd County commissioners voted May 6 to adopt the 2025 senior citizen center appropriation, a budgeted total of $1,200 distributed among centers located within Todd County.
Commissioners said the resolution applies only to senior centers physically located inside the county’s boundaries. Commissioner discussion centered on whether centers outside Todd County that serve county residents — specifically a senior center in Osakis — should receive county support in future budgets. Commissioner Newman said Osakis provides meals to residents from his district and urged the board to research whether the county can expand eligibility.
County staff explained that the appropriation is limited to centers “within its boundaries” and that a center located in Douglas County has been excluded for that reason. Commissioners suggested researching a policy change or an addendum for the 2026 budget to address centers near county borders that serve Todd County residents. Several commissioners said they would pursue follow-up during finance committee meetings to explore options for equitable funding.
The board approved the appropriation after the discussion. Commissioners said they will review the program’s criteria and consider an amended policy or resolution ahead of next year’s budget cycle.
The action affects multiple community senior centers that receive the small, recurring appropriations and may prompt a staff review of how the county defines eligibility going forward.
