The board then voted unanimously to award 2025 SGSD summer maintenance contracts to low bidders Mike Rose, Jed Smith and Laboda Grading after staff said many SGSDs receive only a single bid and the county administers contracts for districts that operate private roads.
Commissioners approved a cooperative striping contract that coordinates with St. Louis and Lake counties; the low bid was for $213,442.09 and work will focus on state‑aid roads and previously striped segments. Highway staff said the cooperative purchasing model yields better pricing through economies of scale.
On a larger capital item, staff updated the board on the Millville Hill bridge and adjacent work: earlier paperwork requested about $2.5 million but, after securing other grants, the county’s revised request is for just under $1.6 million. Staff described lower bid results and additional grant offsets as the reason for the smaller state bridge‑bond ask; the board approved supporting paperwork for the revised amount.
