Public-works update: landfill leachate monitoring continues; campgrounds off to slow start but shelter repairs underway

Chickasaw County public-works staff reported operations and maintenance updates at the May 12 meeting, including landfill leachate monitoring, campground revenues and shelter repairs.
Staff said they recently pumped landfill leachate and monitored well response at short intervals—every minute for the first five minutes and then every five minutes for the next 25—at the request of the engineering firm monitoring the site. The county will continue monthly pumping and monitoring for now; engineers did not request increasing the frequency to weekly.
Park staff reported campgrounds had generated roughly $71,000 for the season to date; by contrast prior seasons finished near $103,000–$105,000. Staff said revenue flows across fiscal- and camping-year accounting make comparisons imperfect but that the season was off to a reasonable start if weather holds.
Work on a memorial bench/shelter and shelter roofing at county parks is underway; staff said steel roofing is finished and crews are focusing on grading, rock for drives and parking lots, brush mowing and spot treatments after recent burns. Staff asked supervisors to confirm who should receive routine reports; supervisors asked staff to ensure minutes and public notices are published per usual procedure.
No formal action resulted from the report; supervisors accepted the update and asked staff to continue monthly leachate monitoring and to provide the requested reports.
