The sheriff (speaking without a recorded last name) said he could purchase equipment and manage installation once the vehicle arrived but could not guarantee full upfitting by July 1.
Finance questions surfaced during discussion: staff reported an available ending balance near $799,000 as of April, and one supervisor said using current-year funds to buy the vehicle would reduce pressure on a tighter next fiscal year. Another supervisor raised public-perception concerns about buying new vehicles while cutting other expenses.
A motion to approve the purchase of a 2025 Tahoe from Carl[o] Chevrolet in the amount of $51,464.20 passed on roll call. Supervisors recorded as voting yes included Scott, Travis, Steve and Isaac; the chair declared the motion carried.
The board did not adopt a separate appropriation for upfitting costs at the meeting. County staff will follow up on the upfitting schedule with providers and seek quotes for equipment and installation.
